Duff Goldman Career, Fashion And More
Duff Goldman’s career began at the age of fourteen when he started working in a kitchen, initially at a bagel shop in a mall. A major turning point in his career came when he landed a job at one of Baltimore’s top restaurants, Charleston, where he made biscuits and cornbread. From there, his career progressed as he worked under renowned chefs in California, including a stagiaire position at the prestigious French Laundry.
Duff later gained recognition as the executive pastry chef at the Vail Cascade Hotel in Colorado and worked at Todd English’s Olives restaurant. In 2000, he founded his own business, Charm City Cakes, which would go on to make him a household name.
Starting out by selling cakes from his home in Charles Village, Baltimore, with just two assistants, Duff’s business grew rapidly. As demand for his cakes increased, he expanded his team. His cakes have become famous for their creativity, including unique designs such as a 3-foot buttercream Elvis sculpture, a replica of a CAT scan machine, a smoking volcano, a jeep, an anatomically correct ear, a 3D German Shepherd, and even an edible version of Wrigley Field.
In March 2008, Duff made headlines when he baked the world’s largest cupcake, weighing 61.4 pounds and standing a foot tall, earning him a place in the Guinness World Records. However, the record was later revoked in 2009 after it was revealed that the cupcake had been made in two parts, as shown in an episode of Ace of Cakes.
Duff’s skills have earned him the opportunity to create custom cakes for numerous celebrities, including Sir Roger Moore, Tom Clancy, President Obama, Katy Perry, and Neil Fallon. In 2009, Duff and his brother Willie co-authored a book titled Ace of Cakes: Inside the World of Charm City Cakes, published by Harper Collins/William Morrow.
Beyond his bakery, Duff has made numerous appearances on television, including reality shows like Ace of Cakes, Holiday Baking Championship, Cake Masters, Duff Till Dawn, Kids Baking Championship, Iron Chef America, Worst Bakers in America, and Dessert Games. While Duff lost a cooking competition on Iron Chef America, he triumphed in the Food Network Challenge, further cementing his reputation as a talented and versatile chef.
